B.O.T.A.- 5 of Wands

Rider-Waite- Smith- Five of Wands

The B.O.T.A. 5 of wands, is as minimalistic as ever. It displays 5 red and gold wands, color of fire, in a pattern called a pentagram and/or pentacle. This is an ancient symbol for Mankind who is made of Fire, Air, Water, Earth, and Spirit. The implications here are that the Life of Mankind is strife ridden. This is not because we are "unworthy", in matter of fact just the opposite. We are created to meet the challenges of Life and evolve them by using discernment and wisdom, thereby, taking the chaos around us and replacing it with order. Hence, the ordered assembly of the 5 wands.

The Rider-Waite- Smith, Five of Wands, displays the activities of 5 youth, assaulting each other with fertile wands, mimicking war or strife. Each youth is dressed in different colors, implying the chaos of different egos trying to prove they are right by the use of force. Here, it is also implied that the journey towards mastery, is strife filled. For to master any activity, including war, requires intensive training, focus diligence and determination; qualities that the many who seek comfort, shy away from as "effort". Mastery of any art, requires passion, devotion, and a uncompromising attitude.

When the 5 or Five of Wands card is thrown during a reading it implies:

  • There is in a 5 day, 5-week or 5 month period in the querent's life consisting of quarreling, fighting,  and violent strife or contest.
  • Because of this volcanic energy, there is also boldness, rashness, and maybe a certain amount of cruelty.
  • Lust, desire, prodigality and generosity are also possible.
  • In such a fiery card, more so than many others, it really depends on which position the card is sitting and whether it is ill or well dignified.

If ill dignified by surrounding cards or reversed it implies:

  • There is soon to be, or is now being, quarreling, argument, and fighting in their immediate environment, that is very passionate and usually means in a relationship, be it family, or lover.
  • Recklessness.
  • Rash actions.
  • If the 5 of Wands lands in the position of "finds you" (Celtic Cross) and/or the significator position, it usually means that the querent is in internal Strife over a situation and are unable to make a decision. Where the cards fall, tells all!
