B.O.T.A. Tarot- Page of Cups

Both the Rider-Waite-Smith and B.O.T.A. Tarot-Page of Cups display a fair, pleasing, somewhat effeminate Page, of studious and intent aspect. However, the Rider-Waite-Smith Page of cups, is contemplating a fish that is rising from the cup to look at him. The B.O.T.A. Page, is just contemplating a silver-blue cup that represents the Water Element, while a fish is jumping out of the river behind him. Both being a symbol of meditation on a subject.

The Princess of Cups, of Thoth Tarot( a nontraditional tarot), and the Rider-Waite-Smith and B.O.T.A. Page of Cups are comparable cards. Waite didn't have Princesses in his deck, as he felt it would revel too much of the Arcane mysteries that he swore to keep secret, so he and Dr. Paul Foster Case of B.OTA, kept the original "androgynous" medieval image of a Page. Crowley thought all should know of Tetragramaton (YHVH) which requires a Princes and Prince (see elitarotstrickingly.com/blogs). The androgynous medieval Page image of the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot deck, is again mundane and effeminate. No secrets of ancient wisdom reveled here, but there is a suggestion of the feminine and the "first matter", as a fish is shown with head above the rim of the cup or the fish leaping in the river . This also suggests life emerging from water or the sea, as does the water Lilly motif of the page's garments. In the back ground is a beach and water illustration, further supporting the water element of this card. Hence, this cup represents the "Holy Grail"-the Feminine Creatrix and the fish is an alchemical symbol for the "first Matter" of creation. The B.O.T.A. Page is lacking the water lily tunic, but its very blue color of both tunic and cape, along with the wave like image of the blue feather in the blue cap, implies the Water/intuitive/emotional element.

When the Page of Cups card is thrown in a divination, it implies:

  • A fair young man, one impelled to render service and with whom the Querent will  be connected.
  • A studious youth.
  • News.
  • Message.
  • Application.
  • Reflection.
  • Meditation.
  • Also these above things directed to business.
  • Pages represent young people but also often show opinions, thoughts, ideas, -either in harmony with, or opposed to the subject.

When thrown reversed:

  • Taste.
  • Artifice.
  • Inclination.
  • Attachment.
  • Seduction.
  • Deception.
