The Milo Manara Erotic Tarot- Knave of Water.

The Knave of Water and the Princess of Cups, both represent mastery of emotional objectivity achieved by working through manipulation, jealousy, possessiveness, and seduction. The Traditional Knave card of Tarot became the Page and then later the Princess of an element suit. This is because of the knowledge of the Hermetic Qabalah of YHVH. You may investigate this further in Robert Wang's: The Qabalistic Tarot or the Thoth Tarot, by Aleister Crowley.

Hades abducting Persephone.

The Erotic Tarot of Milo Manara describes the meaning of the Knave of Water as that of a Prince charming, messenger, and travel companion to this card. However, the picture depicts a male explorer, dressed out in survival gear, carrying a naked woman with scratches on her legs draped over his shoulders, as he wades through a swamp like area. The scratch marks imply she was running through the brambles and bushes of the forest before being caught by the explorer and/or these are scars of previous abuse which created the need to escape his possessiveness and jealousy.

Artistically, this gets the element of the feminine Water into the picture and the subtle meaning of "new perspectives" that is attributed to the Princess of Cups card. Here the male animus is rescuing or abducting a naked anima from past emotionalized thought. Naked means purity, in the realms of the Qabalah and Tarot. The seasonal meaning of this card is the beginning of Summer. This implies new fertile growth, which would be caused by Hades personally delivering Persephone to the surface of the World. Milo Manara is artistically depicting here. He abducted her, and took her to his underworld realm, therefore, causing winter on the surface of the Earth, but later had to make a deal with her mother, Artemis, and let her visit her mother on the surface of the Earth every spring through fall. Whereby she returned to the underworld causing Winter. However, the interpretation is up to the reader as the primary meanings of this card are seduction, jealousy, and possessiveness.

The Princess of Cups, of Thoth Tarot (a nontraditional tarot), and the Rider-Waite-Smith, Prophet, Modern Witch, and B.O.T.A. Page of Cups are comparable cards to the Knave of Water. Waite, who knew the secrets of YHVH, didn't have Princesses in his deck, as he felt it would reveal too much of the Arcane mysteries that he swore to keep secret, so he and Dr. Paul Foster Case of B.OTA, kept the original "androgynous" medieval image of a Page. Crowley and Robert Wang thought all should know of the Divine God Name of Tetragrammaton (YHVH) which requires a Princess and Prince (see Thoth nontraditional blogs @ elitarotstrickingly.com/blogs).

The androgynous medieval Page image of the Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot deck is again mundane and effeminate. No secrets of ancient wisdom revealed here, but there is a suggestion of the feminine and the alchemical symbol for "first matter", as a fish is shown with head above the rim of the cup or the fish leaping in the river . This also suggests life emerging from water or the sea, as does the water Lily motif of the page's garments. In the background is a beach and water illustration, further supporting the water element of this card. Hence, this cup represents the "Holy Grail"-the Feminine Creatrix and the fish is an alchemical symbol for the "first Matter" of creation.

The Page of cups also represents an extremely shrewd and calculating person, making this one a great businessperson. However, this one is extremely intuitive and sensitive to the feelings of others and easily earns the friendship and respect of business colleagues. The fact that the page has keen insight into their own behavior and that of others, makes the page a remarkably good manager of employees or those subordinate to her position. Even though the page of cups may be married and with children, their work usually comes first, implying that the personality is not terribly family orientated.

When the Page of Cups or Knave of Water card is thrown in a divination, it implies:

  • A fair young person, one impelled to render service and with whom the Querent will be connected.
  • A studious youth.
  • News.
  • Message.
  • Application.
  • Reflection.
  • Meditation.
  • Also, these above things directed to business.
  • Pages/Princesses represent young people but also often show opinions, thoughts, ideas, -either in harmony with, or opposed to the subject.

When thrown in reversed:

  • Taste.
  • Artifice.
  • Inclination.
  • Attachment.
  • Seduction.
  • Deception.
