Radiant: Rider-Waite-Smith Tarot- Three of Cups
The Rider-Waite-Smith (RWS) THREE OF CUPS illustrates the THREE Dancing GRACES, an image popularized during the Renaissance. Again, more of a traditional representation than the Thoth Deck or more modern renditions of Tarot; However, both Rider-Waite-Smith and the Connolly Tarot are faithful to the meaning of the Four Threes of Tarot, as they mean the realization of an action. The Action on the RWS- 3 of Cups is shown as dancing in a circle implying the spiraling energy of Spirit. On the RWS card, the three maidens are shown dancing with cups uplifted in a fertile cornucopia style of garden. They are pledged to one another. The Three of Cups, of both the Rider-Waite-Smith and the Connolly Tarot, represent the conclusion of any matter in plenty, perfection, and merriment. Also, a secure environment.
The Connolly Tarot- 3 of Cups
The Connolly Tarot-3 of Cups is again done in a medieval style of stain glass art. Here the loving couple are experiencing success, a happy conclusion, and the beginning of a new lifestyle. The Cherub is blessing the couple with wine with droplets the shape of the Hebrew letter Yod. In Qabalah, Yod, is the smallest letter of the Hebrew alphabet, and represents the spiritual, all which is beyond the physical, yet it plays the key role in the whole of Creation. Yod represents a mere dot, iota (this Greek word obviously is a close relative of Yod), a little speck, a tiny point in which all the divine energy of Creation is concentrated.
Here resides the intuitive, empathetic, fertile, and fecund aspects of Imagination (Image-Making). The 3 cups are placed in a linear form, implying a secure environment and/or a protective home environment where all essential needs are met and where there is emotional and physical security. Here is an abundance of emotional energy that is harmonious, a weaving of Spirit-Mind-Body, frequencies in a harmonic melody. Such as the 3 states of Love-Eros (body love), Philos (Brotherly or family love), and Agapé (Spiritual love) all flowing and balanced. Implying the infinite supply of Grace in this Universe of I AM. Hence, Abundance from the Ternary Divine Feminine is implied here.
When the 3 of Cups is thrown during a reading, the querent will be experiencing:
- A 3 week, or 3-month period of plenty, hospitality, drinking, eating, pleasure, dancing, and merriment.
- New clothes are also a possibility, as in a new wardrobe.
- A surface of Love, Joy, gladness, kindness, and bounty.
- Passive success is seen as good luck and fortune.
- This is the Bacchanalian life of the cornucopia.... Have fun, but don't try and hold on to it, just let the twinkle of Joy in your "I" guide you into a new day of sensual experiences... Let the Spring be spring, the Summer be summer etc.
If Reversed:
- Expedition.
- Dispatch.
- Achievement.
- End.
- Circumstances have changed.
- What once was pleasure, has become pain.
