The Gold Foil Tarot- Three of Cups

The Gold foil- THREE OF CUPS illustrates the THREE Dancing GRACES, an image popularized during the Renaissance. Again, more of a traditional representation than the Thoth Deck or more modern renditions of Tarot; However, both Rider-Waite-Smith and the Gold Foil Tarot are faithful to the meaning of the Four Threes of Tarot, as they mean the realization of an action. The Action on the Gold Foil- 3 of Cups is shown as dancing in a circle implying the spiraling energy of Spirit. On this card, the three maidens are shown dancing with cups uplifted in a fertile cornucopia style of garden. They are pledged to one another. The Three of Cups, of Tarot, represent the conclusion of any matter in plenty, perfection, and merriment. Also, a secure environment.

The Tarot of the Old Path- 3 of Cauldrons

The Tarot of the Old path card illustrates a Bacchanalian scene of celebration. Three people, three cauldrons and three types of merriment.

The woman in the foreground is laughing, while holding a cup in her right hand and a pear in her left. The Pear in the language of plants implies wealth and comfort.

The Woman behind her, with the conical head-dress and fur trimmed gown also implies wealth and she is holding an apple aloft; apples in the language of plants represents earthly desires. Her drinking cauldron is on the fruit laden Table, bright and shinning as it reflects all the colors.

The man is the background is about to eat from a bunch of grapes suspended above his face. In the language of plants, grapes represent fertility. Again, the colors of the card reflect the color of water, the ruling element of the card. However, there seems to be a subtle implied element of fire or blood in the red dress of the woman holding a pear.

This same red color is represented in the Pomegranate cups of the Thoth Tarot 3 of Cups, which represent the "Plenty of Persephone".

The primary meaning of this card seems to be celebration, abundance and a plentiful supply of food and drink. Hence, this card is also about Abundance.

Here resides the intuitive, empathetic, fertile, and fecund aspects of Imagination (Image-Making). The 3 cups reflect rainbows of color, implying a secure environment and/or a protective home environment where all essential needs are met and where there is emotional and physical security. Here is an abundance of emotional energy that is harmonious, a weaving of Spirit-Mind-Body, frequencies in a harmonic melody. Such as the 3 states of Love-Eros (body love), Philos (Brotherly or family love), and Agapé (Spiritual love) all flowing and balanced. Implying the infinite supply of Grace in this Universe of I AM. Hence, Abundance from the Ternary Divine Feminine is implied here.

When the 3 of Cups is thrown during a reading, the querent will be experiencing:

  •   A 3 week, or 3-month period of plenty, hospitality, drinking, eating, pleasure, dancing, and merriment.
  •  New clothes are also a possibility, as in a new wardrobe.
  •  A surface of Love, Joy, gladness, kindness, and bounty.
  •  Passive success is seen as good luck and fortune.
  • This is the Bacchanalian life of the cornucopia.... Have fun, but don't try and hold on to it, just let the twinkle of Joy in your "I" guide you into a new day of sensual experiences... Let the Spring be spring, the Summer be summer etc.

If Reversed:

  • Expedition.
  • Dispatch.
  • Achievement.
  • End.
  • Circumstances have changed.
  • What once was pleasure, has become pain.
